Station History
In 1979 Jim Sliger was granted a license to operate WJSQ-FM 101.7 in Athens, The station signed on with a "Middle of the Road" format mixing light rock and light country.  In 1983 Jim acquired competitor WLAR AM-1450 and brought it into the family. Jim and his son Randy then formatted WLAR with easy contemporary music and WJSQ became a fulltime county station. WLAR was a technological  leader as it was one of only a few stations in East Tennessee to be AM stereo. Jim operated WJSQ and WLAR until his death in 2005. Randy followed in his fathers footsteps and became the operator of the stations.  He added WYGO-FM 99.5 and founded several long running programs such as the annual 4th of July Fireworks Broadcast from Athens Regional Park, McMinn Central Sports broadcasts and live election night coverage.  Sadly we lost Randy in June of 2025.
